My University in Scotland

The University of Aberdeen - Scottish University of the Year 2019 (that's the year after this one yay!)

It was founded in 1495 by William Elphinstone, who was the Bishop of Aberdeen and the Chancellor of Scotland. That makes the university the third oldest in Scotland and the fifth oldest in the United Kingdom. Originally founded to train doctors, teachers and lawyers to serve the crown, King's College was established with only 36 members of staff and taught students in arts, theology, canon and civil law. In 1593, Marischal College was founded by George Keith (fourth Earl Marischal), in the heart of Aberdeen. After the rivalry between both universities was ended, both universities were united in the year 1860 under the Universities Act. In 1894, the first 20 female students started their studies at the University of Aberdeen. It is  hard to imagine that pursuing an interest and a degree was only deemed to be suitable for male student, especially because, nowadays, there is a percentage of 51% female students attending the University of Aberdeen.

Over the last six centuries the university has gained an increase in the student population up to 14,000 students. There have been many investments that helped the UoA become what it is today. Especially in the fielsds of Medical Research and Health Science. The main campus is located around King's College and Elphinstone Hall whereas the second campus called Forresterhill forms one of Europe's major biomedical research centres. It includes the Suttie Teaching Centre where I take some evening classes and it was customized to cater to the research and teaching needs.
Besides the gorgeous and charmful campus, I chose to go to the University of Aberdeen for my degree because they are also the third best university for Linguistics in the UK right after Cambridge and Oxford. It was very important for me that not only the city and campus are in the right place but also that the rankings are somewhat great and I don't think I could have chosen a better university for my degree.
